MARTINA MARIA KERNDL

The Money Mermaid's Apprentice

I
"Money Mermaid! Money Mermaid!
Appear! I know enough: Bubbles
mean bargains when you have cash.
That ocean will not defeat me!"

And the ocean turns dark
And the ocean clears up
Giving sight to the mermaid
Disturbed by a book

"Oh dear," the Money Mermaid goes,
"so you have completed this volume.
'Study bubbles or get lost' - Lecture 1
- and all you have done is reading?!"

And the ocean turns dark
And the ocean clears up
Giving sight to the void
Where the mermaid once was

II
"Money Mermaid! Money Mermaid!
Appear! I know enough: On bubbles
I publicly spoke as an expert. Know-
ledge pays! I am ocean-ready."

And the ocean turns dark
And the ocean clears up
Giving sight to the mermaid
With her merciless look

"Octopuses, gather! Octopuses, come!
This is my new apprentice: Please
make her feel welcome, dance for her
your eternal 'Experts say'-waltz!"

And how their arms flew
Showing off energy
They sure gave all they could
And got their fish for it

"How did you justify your losses?" - "I did
not mention them, what does the public
know?" - "That income - where is it invested
in?" - "I treated myself with new shoes."

And the ocean turns dark
And the ocean clears up
Giving sight to the void
Where the mermaid once was

III
"Money Mermaid! Money Mermaid!
Appear! I know enough: ...

X
"Money Mermaid! Money Mermaid!
Appear! I know enough: Bubbly-Me
fooled me once too often!
Next time I will be prepared."

And the ocean turns dark
And the ocean clears up
Giving sight to the mermaid
Dark and stark

"The Sinking Jaw is here again.
Follow my lead, I do not care
whether you are prepared or not.
It's message you have to hear."

Whoever met the Sinking Jaw
is changed forever, apprentice!
- It might be too much for her,
Money Mermaid. Are you sure?

"Can you hear it? Do not be distracted."
- "This one long shriek? How should I"
- "Don't you dare! Listen! FOCUS!"
- "I am not sure if I want to be here.

First I felt tortured, now so numb..."
- "The pressure will soon be too much
for you. __ Damn it, let's get out of"
